Ethernet DMX Controller rev. 4.0
Hardware
The hardware underwent a fairly large update for this new revision. Notable additions and improvements are:
- a second, fully-independent, XLR5 port for two separate universes of input or output
- support for full PoE operation, requiring no external USB-C power
- full galvanic isolation between PoE power, USB-C power, and DMX outputs
- external-facing button supporting different actions based on short press or long hold
Software & Firmware
The firmware and configuration software updates for this revision were mostly focused on the fundamental operation of the device: things like the users ability to configure custom network settings, or low-level architecture improvements. While the device already supports standard day-to-day artnet functionality (ArtDMX, ArtIPProg, ArtCommand packets, etc), a more complete implementation of the Art-Net spec will be implemented in a future revision.
A list of the main changes:
- rearchitected the firmware to support a variable number of DMX input and output ports
- refactored the ethernet and DMX processing pipeline for much safer and faster operation
- added device configuration through local webpage hosted at device IP, no external internet connection needed
